Promotion of Young Talents

I. To promote young film and TV talents, GWFF offers annual scholarships to film university students (production division) to finance foreign studies at a European or American film university (e.g. summer session). This scholarship endowed with EUR 3,900 is paid out only after presentation of registration documents of the selected foreign film university. Besides the curriculum vitae, a calculation of the costs of the stay abroad and the grounds for the application, a letter of recommendation from the competent professor advocating the planned stay abroad must also be attached to the application.

II. Besides further international sponsoring measures, such as the support of the student film festival “Sehsüchte”, GWFF awards the following film prizes:

  1. the “Main Prize for Best Film” endowed with EUR 20,000 at the
    “FilmFestival Cottbus     - Festival of East European Cinema”.
  2. the “Babelsberger Medienpreise” including the EUR 25,500 “Erich Kästner TV Prize for the Best Program for Children and Young People” and the EUR 18,000 “Promotion Prize for the Best Graduate Film”
  3. Furthermore, GWFF offers the EUR 50,000 “Best First Feature Award” for the best first feature of the program of the Berlinale within the framework of the award of the “Bären”.

III. GWFF sponsors the Erich Pommer Institut (EPI) in Potsdam jointly with AGICOA GmbH. The Erich Pommer Institut provides important scientific contributions to the film copyright law and substantially contributes to the training and further training of young film and TV producers and authors by organizing lectures and further education events.
